Is it better to start in a dedicated beginner class, or to train in mixed-level classes from the start?

In my opinion, most people are better off starting in a dedicated beginner class. Everyone is learning at the same pace, working on the same basics, and figuring things out together. That makes the environment feel far less intimidating, especially if you’re brand new and still getting used to how Muay Thai training works.

In a beginner class, it’s normal not to get things right straight away. You’re less likely to feel out of place or self-conscious than you might in a mixed-level class, where you could be training alongside people who’ve been at it for six months, a year, or even much longer.

That said, it does depend on your background. If you already have experience in other gyms or combat sports — boxing, kickboxing, MMA, for example — a beginner course might not be the best fit. In that case, a mixed or intermediate class can be more beneficial, as you’ll be able to adapt more quickly and get more out of the training.

There isn’t a single right answer. The goal is to put yourself in an environment where you can learn properly, stay consistent, and enjoy the process.
