Irish Muay Thai star Niall McGreevy faces the toughest challenge of his career Saturday, July 11th, when he takes on reigning Rajadamnern Stadium Welterweight Champion Tapaokaew Singmawynn at Rajadamnern World Series (RWS) in Bangkok.
For McGreevy, the contest represents an opportunity to prove he belongs amongst the very best fighters in the world. For Tapaokaew, it is another chance to defend his reputation as one of Thailand's elite stadium champions, against a dangerous rising star.
Tapaokaew Singmawynn – One of Thailand's Elite
Standing across the ring from McGreevy will be one of the most accomplished active stadium fighters in Thailand.
At just 23 years old, Tapaokaew Singmawynn has already amassed an incredible professional record of 81 wins, 22 losses and 2 draws from 105 professional bouts. Fighting out of Singha Mawynn Muay Thai in Bangkok, he is the current Rajadamnern Stadium Welterweight Champion, a title he captured in May 2024 with a unanimous decision victory over Hercules Wor.Jakrawut.
Since becoming champion, Tapaokaew has successfully defended his Rajadamnern title against Li Jialong, Nuenglanlek Jitmuangnon, Alexis Laugeois and Saenpon Sor.Sommai, further cementing his place among Thailand's premier fighters.
Nicknamed "The Bull," Tapaokaew is renowned for his relentless Muay Khao style. Constant forward pressure, devastating knees, punishing clinch work and an exceptional engine have made him one of the most difficult fighters to beat in the stadium circuit.
Throughout his career he has shared the ring with many of the sport's biggest names, earning victories over Ferrari Fairtex, Sangmanee, Yodlekpet Or.Atchariya, Capitan Petchyindee Academy, Chujaroen Dabransarakarm, Yodwicha Por.Boonsit and Hercules Wor.Jakrawut. He has also competed on the global stage under the ONE Championship banner, facing both Rafi Bohic and Tyson Harrison.
His experience, championship pedigree and 105-fight résumé make him one of the most formidable opponents an international fighter can face.
Ireland's Rising Star
Despite entering the contest as the less experienced fighter, Niall McGreevy has already shown why many believe he is one of Ireland's brightest Muay Thai talents.
Fighting out of Lanka Muay Thai in Belfast under the guidance of coach Jamie Crawford, McGreevy entered the professional ranks as a two-time World Champion. While based in Thailand, he trains at Lionheart Muay Thai in Koh Samui under Irish coach and professional Muay Thai fighter Tony Olin, allowing him to prepare year-round alongside elite talent in the birthplace of Muay Thai.
Since making his Rajadamnern World Series debut, McGreevy has compiled a perfect 3-0 record, producing three outstanding performances against quality opposition.
A tall, intelligent technician, McGreevy makes exceptional use of his range. His pinpoint accuracy, excellent shot selection and varied striking arsenal have quickly made him one of the most exciting international prospects competing in RWS. Rather than relying on brute force, he breaks opponents down with timing, precision and intelligent combinations, seamlessly mixing punches, kicks, knees, elbows and teeps.
His confidence will be high following his most recent victory over Chujaroen Dabransarakarm, where he controlled the action across five rounds with a mature, disciplined performance that announced him as a genuine contender.
A Defining Moment
On paper, Tapaokaew's 105 professional bouts dwarf McGreevy's experience.
However, experience alone has never decided a Muay Thai fight.
McGreevy has shown in each of his three RWS appearances that he possesses the technical ability, composure and fight IQ to compete with Thailand's best. Saturday's contest now presents him with the biggest opportunity of his career.
A victory over the reigning Rajadamnern Stadium Welterweight Champion would not only preserve his unbeaten RWS record but would instantly establish the Belfast native as one of the leading international contenders not only in the division, but in the world.
For Irish Muay Thai fans, this is more than just another fight. It is another opportunity to watch one of Ireland's finest talents test himself against the very highest level of the sport.
On Saturday night July 11th, at Rajadamnern Stadium, Niall McGreevy has the chance to make the biggest statement of his career.
