Marie Ruumet Crowned Inaugural Flyweight World Champion at Rajadamnern Stadium

History was made at Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok as Marie Ruumet defeated Zaidania Looksaikongdin to become the inaugural female flyweight world champion.

In a five-round championship contest defined by shifting momentum and physical intensity, Rummet’s pressure, clinch dominance, and relentless Muay Khao ultimately proved decisive.

Looksaikongdin started sharply. In the opening round, she edged the contest 10–9, landing the cleaner strikes while Ruumet appeared measured and slightly slow to settle. The Thai fighter’s early punching success established control and immediately framed the fight as a competitive championship encounter.

Round two tightened considerably. Ruumet began to find her rhythm, increasing output and closing distance more effectively. The exchanges were close, but the judges awarded the round to Ruumet, levelling the contest heading into the third.

The tide turned decisively in round three.

Ruumet imposed herself in the clinch, landing devastating knees and mixing in sharp elbows under sustained forward pressure. Her Muay Khao was on full display — structured, punishing, and physically commanding. It was a dominant round that shifted the fight’s dynamic.

In round four, Looksaikongdin showed resilience. She found success with her hands and landed a strong elbow that opened a cut on Rummet’s forehead. Despite the damage, Rummet refused to retreat. She continued to close distance, force the clinch, and land heavy knees. By the end of the fourth round, the strike totals reflected the sustained control — Rummet 38, Looksaikongdin 15.

The fifth round saw Looksaikongdin press forward with urgency, showing heart in the closing exchanges. But Rummet returned to her foundation — clinch control, knees, and well-timed elbows — maintaining authority through to the final bell.

The judges rendered a unanimous decision in favour of Marie Ruumet.

With that victory, Rummet becomes the inaugural female flyweight world champion at Rajadamnern Stadium — a landmark moment not only for her career, but for women’s Muay Thai at one of the sport’s most historic venues.

Rajadamnern only began allowing women to compete inside the ring on August 5, 2022, with initial bouts taking place under the Rajadamnern World Series from July 22, 2022. The decision ended a 77-year tradition prohibiting women from entering the ring. Among the first to compete during that historic shift was Thai fighter Aida Looksaikongdin — the sister of Zaidania Looksaikongdin.

Just a few years later, that evolution has culminated in a world championship contested on the same canvas that once barred female athletes entirely.

Marie Ruumet did not just win a title — she won it in a venue still writing a new chapter of its own history.

On a stage that once excluded women entirely, a new flyweight world champion now stands.
