Irish Muay Thai veteran Daryl Flood made a statement in his long-awaited return to competition, defeating Danny Pretten of Majestic Gym via second-round TKO after a six-year layoff from active competition.
Despite the lengthy absence from the ring, Flood looked sharp throughout the contest, showing flashes of the technical style that made him one of the most respected names in Irish Muay Thai before 2020. While speaking after the fight, Flood explained that although he had remained training consistently over the years, he had stepped away from competition. Now, returning with a fresh mindset, he says he feels like a different fighter and a different person, beginning his journey again as if it were entirely new.
A longtime standout of the Irish scene and a highly regarded prodigy of Cian Cowley, Flood built his reputation from a young age by facing many of the best fighters Ireland had to offer. Known for his exceptional fight IQ, slick sweeps, timing, and intelligent shot selection, his return immediately adds another major name back into the Irish Muay Thai landscape.
The performance against Pretten showed that the years away from competition have done little to diminish Flood’s natural ability and composure in the ring. If anything, the performance suggested a more mature and composed version of the fighter many Irish fans remember.
Flood is expected to return again as early as August, continuing what many are already calling a resurgence in his Muay Thai career. For Irish Muay Thai fans, the return of one of the sport’s most spectacular fighters is an exciting development — and one that many will be watching closely over the coming months.
